Above is the NBC's official story about the upcoming hearing of SAE, the fraternity in which led the infamous chant against black people joining the fraternity, and the University of Oklahoma. The University wants the fraternity permanently removed from schools nationwide, and the fraternity is suing in order to keep their position, not wanting a few of its members to destroy all of what the frat has done.
I honestly don't give a damn what any member of this fraternity thinks. The fact that they didn't get arrested, charged with performing a hate crime (by sending it to the Black Student Union's leader at their University) means that the school gave them absolute mercy. I mean, we all know white kids don't often get in trouble for what they do anyway, let alone frat boys. Yet, the situation stands. This fraternity doesn't deserve to fight against a decision. Instead of getting upset over the disciplinary actions being placed, they should be upset for why they got the punishment in the first place. Their racist, ignorant mayo behavior gave them that punishment. It was their decision, no matter what people have to say about it.
Just by listening to the chant, displayed above, you wonder why this still happens in 2015. I mean this is 2015. We have made strides in feminism, gay rights, and although we may have not reached where we want to be, the consciousness of the country has changed for those situations. Why haven't race-relations improved? Sure, we've become more tolerant of each other. We have to get to know a black person to understand they aren't a thug, or realize AFTER an hour-long commute with a Muslim person that they aren't a terrorist. We have not improved, we have just gotten better at hiding our true stereotypical and ignorant minds. This fraternity goes to school with many black people, even having a BSU as an extracurricular. But, that doesn't change what they did. This is what we face as a people everyday, and I'm absolutely sick of it.
