Yesterday while watching TV with my mom we came across a title while searching for something to watch. On CW there was a title called “TV’s Hottest Commercials Countdown 2015”. When we first saw the title we automatically had a set idea to what most of the commercials content would contain, half naked women, shirtless men, insinuating jokes etc. After watching we realized this tv special really hit it out of the park and went above and beyond our expectations.
This “1- HOUR SPECIAL” goes through 20 commercials that were intended to be sexy, funny, and not relating to the product being sold. Common ads that were placed in this special were beer and axe commercials. In almost every commercial the woman was dressed in a “sexy” getup and was seducing the man/men. One commercial that hit a nerve was one of the beer commercials. It was commenting on “beer goggles” and the more you drink beer, the sexier your partner will get. In the commercial two people were sitting in a bar. One man, one woman. The woman seemed to be “not sexy” because
1. she was reading a book
2. her hair was tied up
3. she was wearing glasses
4. she was wearing layers of clothing
Each time the man would take a sip of his beer more articles of her clothing were off and by the time he had all of his beer
1. She was in a bra
2. she was seducing him by nearly fondling her breasts
3. her glasses were off
4. the book was gone
5. her hair was down
So this commercial is apparently saying that the less clothes you have and if you dumb yourself down you will be considered sexier to men and also if you drink this beer every girl will be this kind of sexy for you. After that commercial my mom and I were completely right about our expectations for this “TV special”.
After about 3 or 5 commercials the two hosts of this special would say their opinions or scripted jokes about these commercials. My mom and I were shocked to hear some of this commentary that was written in the script. Even the woman host would say jokes insinuating that the girls had STD’s because in the commercial they were playing the seductress or were in bathing suits.
In the beginning of this special they even say they are honoring sexiness as they go through these commercials. In your opinion what are they actually doing?
