As of today, it seems as if the world couldn't possibly inflict some atrocious deed on someone or something, it is too early, it's only January. But no, the stars above go against our favour and bestow america with yet another gift. Yes, no lives were taken, yes, it is not an issue of civil rights, but I still found the following intriguing. While I am not aware at what date exactly, but Hershey's (yes, the chocolatier,) had filed a lawsuit against a British chocolatier Cadbury chocolate eggs, because of the striking resemblance between British and the Hershey's counterpart. Furthermore, Hershey's manages to place similar ban on numerous British candy brands, forbidding importation and retail of such into the country. Even more, Hershey's claimed exclusive right to produce Cadbury eggs and sell them with such a name in US, basically misleading the future customers into buying those under the concept of buying the real Cadburys, which is basically THE EXACT THING they were complaining about. Hershey's claimed another brand of chocolate, Yorkies, to be infringing on its "York Peppermint Patties," which have nothing in common besides somewhat of a similar name. The owners of British stores in NYC are obviously enraged, as one of them calls," 'You know what’s behind it, right?' Perry fumed, referring to Hershey's lawsuit. 'Hershey’s doesn’t want people to eat Cadbury’s, because Cadbury’s is so much better, people aren’t going to be buying their filth.'" As much anger as the statement might hold, Americans know the truth too well, European goods are usually healthier than locally made corn-syrup based chemicals. Frankly said, American chocolates are unhealthy and inferiour in taste to the British ones, and seeing this monopolization is sickening. There is no real law that denies a company the chance to sell goods on the basis of being similar to some other company, but because Hershey's is influential in US, it is easier for them to use a law or some concept of 'infringement' to control other companies. If one was to think outside of boundaries of a man-made law, and use common sense, it would not make sense, why should the bigger push down the weak? The decision will put out or damage many businesses focusing on imported goods. Out of all of the issues that happen to US nowadays, why is this one? Hershey is not threatened and can never be threatened by something as small as a foreign brand, there is no reason to do something so massive. Why is it that monopoly of larger companies, indirect poisoning of citizens occur...?
