new.damn.com/3-fearless-girls-got-national-television-shocked-everyone/This video speaks to so many issues students have to deal with on a daily basis in such a brutally honest manner that it gave me chills. From things like the gaps in our history books, how this country was built on racial oppression and genocide, to getting kicked out of class because female bodies are distracting to male students learning. But especially, the most interesting issue they speak about is the fact that they give awards for perfect attendance but none for the kids working two jobs outside of school to keep their families together, or the ones living with cancer or autism, or are clinically depressed and still find a way to make it out of bed and into class, even though they miss a day or two (This is also relevant to my next post). Our education system is so flawed, and it seems as though it's getting increasingly worse. There are many things I have learned in my academic classes that have little to do with the subject that's supposed to be taught. This piece is also spoken word poetry, which I find to be a very powerful way to reach people (and has some pretty cool literary techniques). I think this is a problem that we, the next generation, needs to take into our hands, because everyone is an educator to those who come after us in some capacity.
